2013 Ukulele Art Festival
Garden Of Uke
Pier
This year I decided to do something different and use my foiling technique combined with my paper art skills to produce my garden of uke. The hardest part was creating my paper caterpillar ~ just so fiddly. I also used my foiling technique with Rehua my heidelberg on handmade paper.
Nian
Paper Art pieces
Pullman Reef Casino Cairns
When Hayley Gillespie asked me if I wanted to exhibit in Nian for Chinese New Year, I was excited. So I quickly did a couple of paper art pieces including my pandas in a cup which couldn’t go in the exhibition because The Reef Casino didn’t have the facilities to house them and keep them from getting stolen.
Appropriately I did a paper art cut out of a Chinese Lion who scares away the Nian creatures.

And this is my Year of the snake viola ~ approritate seeing as we are celebrating The Year of the snake this year. I had an old viola and covered it totally in white paper and then created a snake paper sculpture as well as some paper cutouts of 2013 and the chinese symbols for snake. Do you know what animal you are? Are you going to have a good year?Let’s hope so!
These are my red shoes that I wore to opening night. I had bought them for five dollars and they were very plain but I had got the idea from Elsita.

Esplanart 2012
How exciting! I got accepted as one of ten artist to feature their work along the Cairns Esplanade for Esplanart 2012. As a paper artist I wanted my sculptures to reflect what I was all about. I wanted to kids to understand that there are animals in our country that are very unique but if we don’t look after them, there won’t be anymore of that species. So I combined my love of old fashion circuses with some of the endangered animals that I love. I also wanted a sign that anyone could pick a date and a name for their endangered circus.
So this is Joe the northern hairy nosed wombat the ring leader. These little guys only have a small land in Central Queensland and there is just under 300 living wombats.

Lola is a tight rope walker Emu Wren who is a little bigger than the actually malee emu wrens that I based her on. The small emu wrens do only have 5 or 6 tail feathers and are very close to extinction. Let’s hope we can save them for the future generations.

And these are tree kangaroos.Marvin and Walter love balancing on top of each other and joining their very long tails together. There is a couple of different varieties that live in Papua New Guinea and here in Australia. I have only ever seen a tree kangaroo in the zoo.

The Ukulele Art Festival 2012
It’s so exciting to be included in designing a Uke to raise money for charity. This year it is for COUCH (Committee for Oncology Unit Cairns Hospital)! This year, as it is Year of the Dragon for Chinese Zodiac, I have designed a 3D dragon around the ukulele. Here are some photos.
The exhibition starts on the 22nd June 2012 at the Tanks Arts Centre here in Cairns. There are other great artists who have designed ukuleles as well. Come along and make a bid! It’s for a great cause.

Postcard Show – Cairns Regional Gallery 2011

This is my first pop up card and I am sorry that it’s blurrrrryyyy! I forgot that I hadn’t taken any photos of it and forgot my camera on opening night so I went in with my iphone and well that’s why it’s blurry but you get the idea. The colours that you see in the blurry photo are the actual colours of the card that I picked because of the reef being bright and vibrant. This is the Cairns Regional Gallery’s Fundraising Event through mostly the local artists.

Ukelele Art Festival – 2011
With the Ukulele Art Festival the monies raised from this exhibition went to Harald’s House. Harald story is just amazing and he is so dedicated to the homeless kids. You can learn about Harald’s story here. I managed to raise just over 300 dollars through the exhibition.
